Oheyawahe/Pilot Knob is a Dakota sacred site and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Twenty years ago the site was proposed for a townhouse development, but because of citizen action, the City of Mendota Heights purchased the site and opened it for public visitation. We’ll walk the site and talk about the importance of the site to Dakota culture, why it is on the National Register, and the oak savanna restoration process.
