Women's basic chainsaw course at Merck Forest and Farmland in Rupert, Vermont. May 8th, 2021.

Merck Forest and Farmland Center, a 3,200+ acre educational environmental non-profit located in Rupert, Vermont, is partnering with Northeast Woodland Training to provide a women's only Basic Chainsaw course on May 8.

The Basic Chainsaw course is developed for those with little or no chainsaw experience, provides instruction on safety, the parts of a chainsaw, the forces at play, and time to get the feel for how a chainsaw cuts.  While trees are not felled in the basic course, and participants do have the opportunity to cut trees that have been felled.

Merck Forest and Farmland Center will also be offering a women's-only Game of Logging Levels 1 & 2 course on May 15 & 16, as well as co-ed Game of Logging Levels 3 & 4.

Preregistration is required.  To register, go to our shop at https://www.merckforest.org/product/adult-programming/   Space is limited, and Covid-19 protocols will be in place.  Participants must bring their own personal protective equipment, including a sound hard hat, chaps, and hearing/eye protection, but a chainsaw is not necessary. Minimum age is 18 years. Course fees: $200 per level / $180 for members. (Memberships for MFFC are $50/year).  All classes start at 8:00a and run until approximately 4:30.

For people traveling a distance, camping is available on our farm, free of charge.
