Indiana’s LaPorte County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is partnering with Women4theLand to focus on female landowner needs through periodic Women’s Conservation Learning Circles.

The Congress passed the Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018, commonly known as the 2018 Farm Bill, in December 2018.

Women Owning Woodlands Workshop

Women Owning Woodlands (WOW) engages and educates women in stewardship of land by connecting them to resources, trusted professionals, and a community of other women. Are you a woman who owns, cares for, or is interested in learning more about woodlands? You are invited to attend this event, which will highlight sustainable forestry, wildlife habitat enhancement, longleaf pine restoration, and conservation practices.

As a landowner, you have hopes and dreams for your woods. Whether you’d like to create more wildlife habitat, thin your forest or restore it following a natural disaster, your dreams require the right resources to come true.

Financial assistance programs, often times called cost share programs, can help make these dreams more attainable and affordable by providing the financial support and technical know-how you need. Some of the most helpful programs come from a surprising source: the USDA Farm Bill.

Women landowners and natural resource professionals interested in learning about private land management and conservation are invited to attend a workshop on "Getting to Know Your Land." These workshops are the first in a series of six quarterly events offered by ForestHer NC, a new initiative that seeks to engage women in woodland stewardship.

Topics for the first workshops include:

•  North Carolina's forest ecosystems

•  Identifying the types of forest you own

•  Forest management planning

•  Defining a vision for your land
