Details are finalized for our Game of Logging courses this fall, with Northeast Woodland Training.

Merck Forest will be offering a Women's Only Game of Logging course for Level One on September 28th. Participants receive training and certification in precision felling techniques, safety checks, and chainsaw best practices. Tuition cost is $180 per person, and we offer accommodations in our Barn Cabins for people who may be traveling from a distance at the rate of $10 / person / night.

The Okefenokee wildlife refuge wildfire is a good reminder that wildfires can happen anytime, anywhere. Normally spring rains keep the soils, plants and trees moist in this portion of northern Florida and southern Georgia. This year the springs rain did not come and the lack of precipitation allowed the woods to dry out. This, in turn, made the woods more prone to fire caused by a lightning strike.
